E-Disk SUD35 Cost-effective Storage Solution Boosts Systems Sustained R/W Rates to 34 MBytes/sec with Access Time to 0.048 ms

FREMONT, Calif.-- Accelerating its growth as a diversified network storage solutions company, BiTMICRO NETWORKS, Inc. today unveiled the storage industry’s first Ultra Wide SCSI Low Voltage Differential solid state flash disk -- the E-Disk SUD35.

The SUD35 is a new class of storage solution that is easy to deploy in any business or computer environment. It is particularly suitable in mission critical enterprise and departmental servers that demand peak end-to-end performance and 7x24 data availability under all conditions.

SUD35 solid state flash disk can be used as a replacement for current storage devices or as a complement to conventional storage devices that ramatically improves server performance by speeding-up the delivery of
frequently accessed “hot” files.

The dramatic performance gain from E-Disk SUD35 extends the capability
of the server configuration. Instead of adding more servers, the E-Disk SUD35 enables customers to maximize performance of their existing server infrastructure.

“The need for reliable, high capacity, and high performance data storage continues to grow exponentially. We recognize this trend and are responding with solutions to meet the market’s needs. We are working closely with our partners in optimizing our storage technology to deliver maximum benefits to the IT community,” said Ricky Bruce, founder and CTO of BiTMICRO.

The E-Disks are plug-and-play solutions that have been tested on all major platforms. E-Disks are fully compatible with Linux, Solaris, Windows NT, MacOS, and LynxOS.  Other supported operating systems include AIX, FreeBSD, HP-UX,  IRIX, NetBSD,  OS/2, QNX, VxWorks,  SCO Unixware and OpenServer, Solaris X86, and Tru64.

“SUD35 combines the best features of current storage devices. It has the large storage capacity of hard disk drives, the fault tolerance and redundancy of RAID systems, the dependability and reliability of flash memory devices under harsh conditions, and the high performance of DRAM-based storage solutions. All these features are packaged in a 3.5-inch form factor that has no moving parts, consumes very little power, and requires neither power, battery nor hard disk drive for data retention,” said Dave Bultman, BiTMICRO’s vice president of engineering.

E-Disk SUD35 addresses the server market by providing near instantaneous
0.048 millisecond access time and super-fast random sustained read and write transfer rates to 34 MBytes per second and burst read and write transfer rates of 40 MBytes per second. It is available with capacities of up to 18.9 GBytes.  Cable lengths to 12 meters can be accommodated with no data signal degradation.

High-performance E-Disks are built on the proven FlashBus technology and
sophisticated design that ensures dependability and reliability. E-Disks all-electronic design features include extreme data longevity and selectable volatile options with PowerGuard. They are lightweight and require no airflow for cooling.

“Our wear-leveling and bad block auto-remapping techniques extend the E-Disk system erase/write endurance by several orders of magnitude. Thus, our 1 GByte capacity E-Disk can sustain an average 100,000 MBytes of erase/write cycles per 24 hours of continuous operation for more than 27 years,” added Bultman. “Scaling down, our 1 GByte E-Disk can sustain an average 100 MBytes of erase/write cycles per day for more than 28,000 years.”

BiTMICRO’s LVD flagship SUD35 will be showcased at the following conferences and tradeshows: Embedded Systems Conference, Sep 24-28, 2000, San Jose, California; ORACLE OpenWorld 2000 Booth #641, Oct 1-5, 2000, San Francisco, California; COMDEX Fall 2000 FCIA Booth, Nov 13-17, 2000, Las Vegas, Nevada; COTScon West 2000 Booth #38, Dec 12-13, 2000, San Diego, California; CeBIT 2001 FCIA Booth, Mar 22-28, 2001, Hannover, Germany; and COTScon East 2001 Booth #166, May 31-Jun 1, 2001, Washington DC.

Available now, the new SUD35 is a drop-in replacement for any standard SCSI 3.5-inch hard disk drive, flash disk or solid state disk drive.
