Bochs x86 PC
Emulator for OS/2
released
(no Xfree86 required)

John Hong just updates
the PE2LX port of Bochs/32 and the archive (bochsos2.zip, 819,85K) was uploaded on Hobbes.
Bochs x86 PC Emulator for OS/2 Warp is a repackaging of the Win32-OS/2 port of Bochs/32
which is a WinNT version of the said emulator.
Hong was included in bochos2.zip MTOOLS.ZIP and the necessary
files in order to make the floppy and hard drive images in order to get this up
and running quickly. No Xfree86-OS/2 required.
- All I've done is repackage this so that it includes the Win32-OS/2 files that
are necessary in getting this going. Stick the BOCHSOS2.EXE into a directory and
execute it, it will uncompress the files for you - saids Hong.
Now, first thing you'll need is a bootable DOS disk (with format.exe & fdisk.exe
at the least). Once you have that, make the floppy.dsk image by typing:
dd.exe if=A: ibs=512 of=floppy.dsk
Then you will make your hard drive image, type:
zero.exe | dd of=harddrive.dsk bs=512 count=20808
This will make a 10 MB hard drive image file (well, ok it's
really 19+ but to Bochs it will read as a 10 MB hard drive).
You will then edit the "bochsrc" file in order to aim the harddrive.dsk
& floppy.dsk image files to whichever directory you've placed this on your
HD.
In order for this to run, type in "bochs.exe -bootA" in an OS/2 command
prompt.
- I'm still trying to see if there is any real difference in performance
with this version and the Xfree86-OS/2 ported version. So far both seem
the same to me (very slow) - saids Hong.
You'll notice a message saying that there is a version mismatch, simply
say ignore and it'll start going.
