Don Hawkinson, author
of CCA and
many other utilities for OS/2, just updates DH-Grep-PM to V. 1.04 and the archive (dhg_104.zip, 367.63K) was uploaded on Hobbes. DH-Grep_PM is an OS/2 PM version
of grep that is designed as a user friendly application for a multitasking environment.
The often cryptic command line options have been replaced with easy to use menu
selections. The output of the search is sent to a PM window and the user has easy
access to all of the information that was found.
This PM version of grep is designed as a user friendly
application. The often cryptic command line options have been replaced with easy
to use menu selections. The output of the search is sent to a PM window and the
user has easy access to all of the information that was found by the program. To
reduce the overhead, the results are buffered until the search is completed and
then displayed in the PM window.
New in DH-Grep-PM Version 1.04
Fixed a problem with the temporary file used to store the
search results. Previous versions did not delete the temporary file if the user
did not exit the program by using the "Exit" selection on the menu bar.
New in DH-Grep-PM Version 1.03
Fixed problem with the Copy function that caused the program
to abort when the user tried to copy more than 64KB to the clipboard.
Added an accelerator key combination (Alt+Z) to open the Search Parameter dialog.
Increased the amount of data that could be posted to the results window. Testing
indicates that the size of the results can now be least one megabyte. The results
window is an MultiLine Editor window and it appears to have a problem handling large
amounts of data. I have been able to display a results file that was over 3 megabytes,
but the failure point may be configuration dependant. The MultiLine Editor is part
of the IBM Open Class Library.
If DH-Grep-PM crashes due to too much data, the search results will still be available
in the temporary file created by the program. This file will be in the working directory
or the TMP directory set in your config.sys file.
New in DH-Grep-PM Version 1.02
This release changed the name of a temporary file from a hard coded name to one
assigned by a system function. This allows more than one copy of DH-Grep-PM to
be run from the same working directory.
A change was also made to the browse function used to select a search path. This
change replaced the standard File Dialog to a custom dialog that does not allow
the user to enter a file name. This change only modifies the user interface and
is cosmetic in nature.
The saved option settings now include the last used path for saving search results
or loading previous results. The path information is only saved when the user selects
the save option settings function.
New in DH-Grep-PM Version 1.01
This release was made to correct a bug in the routine that
searches the drive for files. This problem would only occur when the search was
started from the root directory of drives that have a large number of files and
subdirectories. The program would run out of search handles before all of the drive
had been searched. This was a silent error, the user would not be aware of the problem
unless he or she knew that there were more files that matched the search criteria.
Now all of the search configuration options are saved. The clear display option
was also added to the saved settings.
An indicator was added to the version number in the title bar to identify which
CPU version is being used.
