File Commander |
File Commander by Brian Havard is actually one of the most powerfull and fast file managers for Windows NT. I, @Macarlo, registered user, made it my default file manager because it runs exactly as Midnight Comander, my default file manager on Unix. If you need high speed, efficiency, precision managing longnames on NT (console or PM) i recommend File Commander! A version for OS/2 Warp is also available.

File Commander is a 32 bit text mode file manager and shell that allows you to locate, copy, move, delete, view, edit and execute your files in a quick, convenient and customizable manner.
It's main display provides dual directory view panels that may serve as source and destination of a copy or move operation or just two different views of your files. A panel may also be used to view a directory tree, drive statistics or may be turned off altogether, making visible the output of previously executed commands.
A command line is also provided and operates in conjuction with the directory panels to make it much more powerful than a regular CLI including pasting file names from the panel, a command history recall window and command completion from history.

The following changes have been completed since the release of v2.00 and are included in v2.01:
Bug Fixes
OS/2: Renaming a file would update it's date stamp. External command output wasn't always in the colour specified in FC's configuration. The 4DOS descript.ion file could get multiple entries for the one file when overwriting files with the 'All' option. When copying / moving whole directories, 4DOS descriptions were being lost. Editor: Undoing the removal of marked text from the very last line of the file would give an incorrect result. Editor: Undoing removal of translated characters would mangle text.NT only: In editor when selecting text with the mouse, moving above the window with mouse button still pressed would cause FC to crash. The 'smart CD' function was broken in that it searched the tree case sensitively. Fixed memory leak in paste function. Fixed problem where OS/2's WPS Menu's adding of the folder's directory to the command line would cause "Access denied" errors and "hst" files all over the place.
