"Tools to Reface & Design your AS/400 Applications" - Web Seminar
Join us Thursday, July 20, 11 a.m. ET., for "Tools to Reface
and Design your AS/400* Applications" Web seminar. Modernizing
applications doesn't mean you have to rewrite or create new
applications from scratch. There are many possible solutions
for putting a new face on existing applications. Examples of
modernization strategies include intercepting the existing 5250
data stream and reformatting it to graphical interface, reworking
application designs, moving to ILE and partitioning and
modularizing applications. The AS/400 AD Tools Network team will
focus on IBM as well as Partner tools that can help developers
implement the AD strategy best meeting their business needs.
This seminar is intended for application developers and IT
managers responsible for the application modernization strategy
in their company. To register for the event select PartnerWorld

IBM builds world's fastest supercomputer to simulate nuclear testing
for U.S.
IBM has built the world's fastest supercomputer--capable of
12 trillion calculations per second--more than three times
faster than the most powerful computer in existence today.
Known as ASCI White, the RS/6000* SP supercomputer covers an
area the size of two basketball courts and will be used by
the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) program to help ensure
the safety and reliability of the nation's nuclear weapons
stockpile without real-world testing. In testing completed
at IBM facilities in Poughkeepsie, NY, ASCI White demonstrated
a record computational capability of 12.3 teraflops (trillions
of operations/second)--exceeding the performance requirements
of IBM's pioneering contract with the DOE by 23 percent. The
system is scheduled to be fully installed at the DOE's Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory (CA), by year-end. The
Laboratory is operated for the DOE by the Univ. of California.

IBM expands support for Linux with added offerings
IBM has expanded its commitment to Linux with new hardware and software
offerings and a set of initiatives to help developer and reseller
partners develop and install Linux solutions for customers worldwide.
IBM will offer its ThinkPad* A20m and T20 models pre-configured with
Caldera OpenLinux eDesktop 2.4. The pre-load will help software
developers and IT professionals dramatically reduce the time needed to
set up and tune the systems.
SuSE Linux for RS/6000* has been tested and certified on RS/6000 B50
servers, the 43P Model 150 entry servers and workstations and the F50
deskside servers. Support for other RS/6000 products will be added
later this year. IBM also announced plans to offer Linux on AS/400, a
new stream of e-business applications that complement AS/400 strength
as a leading integrated core business data transaction server for mid-
market customers.
