IBM Acquires
KnowledgeX Technology
to Enhance Business
Intelligence Solutions
Problem-solving software helps customers put corporate data
in context.
ARMONK, N.Y.,and ATLANTA - IBM today announced it has
acquired Integrated Technology, Inc.'s KnowledgeX technology, a
sophisticated software solution that helps companies make more informed
business decisions by better harvesting, analyzing and sharing data.
KnowledgeX leverages all types of data whether it's inside a database, from
a news feed, in a publication, or on the Internet. IBM plans to integrate
KnowledgeX technology into its DB2 Universal Database and business
intelligence solutions in the future, bringing expanded capabilities to its
customers. Financial terms of the agreement with Integrated Technology Inc.
were not disclosed by IBM.
Mirroring the human process of problem solving, KnowledgeX gathers
information from diverse sources, discovers data connections and
relationships, applies the data to a problem or issue, and helps develop and
communicate a solution so action can take place. Some of the business
areas where customers are using KnowledgeX today include competitive
intelligence, mergers and acquisitions, sales force automation, litigation,
vertical industry applications, and knowledge management.
"Today's companies are using an increasing number of data sources to try
to build or keep their competitive edge -- from the Internet and extranets, to
documents and corporate databases," said Janet Perna general manager,
data management, IBM Software Solutions, "By combining the power of
IBM's database and business intelligence solutions with KnowledgeX
companies will be able to make better sense of this diverse data, uncover
new business opportunities, and turn knowledge into action across the
enterprise."
Customer Benefits
KnowledgeX software reveals relationships hidden in business
data,
determines the strength of those relationships, and identifies their relevance
to a defined business goal or problem.
In competitive intelligence, for example, KnowledgeX can show connections
between key industry players and decipher past events, contracts or
alliances. KnowledgeX analyzes and links seemingly random pieces of
information to track trends and intelligently forecast competitors' future
activities.
IBM and Business Intelligence
The KnowledgeX technology will complement many of IBM's
tools and
methods in the data and business intelligence space including DB2
Universal Database, Intelligent Miner for Text, Visual Warehouse and others.
