FPX Host Access
CIREL, the leading French manufacturer of telecommunication solutions, recently
announced their integrated support of its FPX Host Access product with IBM eNetwork
Communications Server for Windows NT. FPX Host Access complements Communications
Server by providing plug-and-play capabilities along with the most complete gateway
in the industry.
Enhanced functions
FPX Host Access brings new features to Communications Server, including:
A multi-adapter, multiprotocol product (in X25, SDLC, Frame Relay), which boosts
the PC's availability A multi-adapter and multiprotocol hot backup, which restores
lost connections when any problems occur
In addition, FPX Host Access extends the Communications Server for Windows NT in
several ways:
FPX Host Access provides a low-cost standalone emulator (it supports IBM eNetwork
Personal Communications for Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 3.11) FPX Host
Access provides a version made especially for laptops to support Personal Communications
via auto synchronous modems
FPX Host Access provides an easy-to-use, powerful user interface. From this interface,
administrators can manage devices remotely, including hardware reset, dynamic configuration,
supervision of the different adapter levels, and remote trace functions. These
trace functions trace the Communications Server flows via the Network Monitor, as
well as any WAN protocol (X25, SDLC, Frame Relay, on synchronous or IDSN junction)
via CIREL proprietary tools.
FPX Host Access is NDIS-compliant. The FPX Host Access driver manages the 802.2
dialog and encapsulates the SNA traffic into the WAN protocols used: X25, SDLC,
Frame Relay, and ISDN. It also can be used with other SNA products.
With multi-sites (multi-PU) having one site per X25 Virtual Circuit, FPX Host Access
offers X25/ISDN connectivity, thanks to the CIREL FPX adapters. FPX Host Access
supports the incoming calls, has an inactivity disconnection timer, is technically
independent from the IBM device, and, because it works in Kernel mode, cannot
be influenced by the multi-task function of Windows NT.
Finally, FPX PassLan/IP, the CIREL multiprotocol TCP/IP router, supports IBM eNetwork
Communications Server as well as any service of IP routing, supporting the installation
of an Internet/intranet architecture. Its inactivity timer, the Hi/Fn compression
allied to the bandwidth-on-demand capability, improves performance.
Responsive sales team
Carl Farkas, the IBM EMEA eNetwork Distributed Software Technical Support Leader,
describes CIREL as a high quality partner, with excellent products and a dynamic,
supportive sales team. CIREL Sales Engineers work together on-site with IBM Customer
Engineers to address specific customer needs. For IBM, it is essential that Communications
Server users benefit from a complete telecommunication solution that perfectly matches
their requirements. As an SNA gateway, FPX Host Access provides a powerful, complete,
and affordable solution.
