Iomega Installation And Utility Support For OS/2

This document applies to the following:

Operating System: OS/2
Device Type: Zip 100, Jaz
Software Version:2.34

This document includes information on installing the Iomega OS/2 OAD driver, preparing an Iomega disk (format), and using the Iomega OS/2 lock and unlock utility.

AUTOMATIC SETUP FOR OS/2:

  1. Make a backup copy of the Iomega software diskette. Insert the Iomega device support diskette into a floppy drive and type A: (where A represents the floppy drive. Type: DISKCOPY A: A: and follow instructions.
  2. Insert the backup diskette into a floppy drive.
  3. Open your OS/2 system icon.
  4. Open your "System Setup" folder.
  5. Double-click on "Device Driver Install."
  6. Check source and destination drives. Make sure that the destination drive (shown in the OS/2 Device Driver installation window) is your OS/2 boot drive, and that the source drive is the floppy drive used in step 2.
  7. Select "Install," click once on "Iomega OS/2 OAD Driver," and select OK. The OAD files are copied automatically to your boot drive.
  8. After installation is complete, remove the backup copy of the Iomega device support diskette from your floppy drive.
  9. In the OS/2 Device Driver Installation window, select "EXIT," "YES," and "OK."
  10. Perform an OS/2 SHUTDOWN and reboot the system. Screen Message: As the driver loads, a message is displayed indicating that configuration is not yet complete; this is normal; continue with the next step.
  11. After rebooting, open an OS/2 full-screen prompt.
  12. Change to the OAD directory and start GENOAD. Type CD OAD and press <Enter>. Type GENOAD and press <Enter>.
  13. Read the introduction screen and press <Esc>.
  14. Select "Scan Physical Connections" and press <Enter>. Follow the screen instructions. The devices connected to your system are displayed in the SCAN window. If No Devices are Found: Refer to "Solving Problems" section in your MANUAL.EXE file, found in the OAD directory on your boot drive, for solutions. When SCAN is finished and the devices connected to your system are displayed, your software installation is complete.
  15. Press <Esc> twice and press <Enter> to "Save OAD Changes."
  16. Press <Enter> to "Save OAD as: CONFIG," and press <Enter> to overwrite Config.
  17. Press <Esc> twice and press <Enter> to exit.
  18. Perform an OS/2 SHUTDOWN and reboot the system.

Automatic Setup is Complete. Refer to the rest of this document for information about using OAD utilities, and preparing disks.

USING OAD UTILITIES:

You can use your OAD utilities to prepare Iomega disks and lock or unlock Iomega drives.

PREPARING DISKS WITH MPREP:

All new Iomega disks, unless preformatted or previously formatted under DOS, must be prepared with MPREP before they can be used by the system. If you are unsure about the previous format, run MPREP. MPREP Execution Options can be run from the menu, as described in the following steps, or from the OS/2 system prompt with the command: MPREP T: (where T represents the target disk).

  1. Insert the disk(s) into your Iomega drive(s). Make sure that your computer system and Iomega subsystems are turned on.
  2. Open an OS/2 full-screen prompt and change to the boot drive. Type C: (or the letter of your boot drive if other than C), and press <Enter>.
  3. Change to the OAD directory and start MPREP. Type CD OAD and press <Enter>. Type MPREP and press <Enter>.
  4. Read the introduction screen and press <Esc>.
  5. Select the "Target Drive" from the menu and press <Enter>. The "Target Drive" contains the disk you want to prepare. If you want to insert a disk after starting MPREP, press F3 to rescan the drives and find the new disk.
  6. Select "Start Utility" and press <Enter>. CAUTION! The format erases all information on the disk.

Disk preparation times vary depending on the type and size of disk(s). After completion, exit MPREP.

LOCKING DISKS:

The Lock utility is used to prevent cartridge removal and makes a disk appear "fixed" to OS/2. Disks are unlocked using the same utility. Click the right mouse button on your drive icon and select "Lock Disk" or "Unlock Disk."

LOCK Command Line Option

The Lock utility can be run as described above, or from the OS/2 system prompt with the following commands (where T represents the target disk).

LOCK T: /L (to lock)
LOCK T: /U (to unlock)
LOCK T: /Q (to determine present state)
