@Macarlo is member of the NetBeans Developers Team NETBEANS SUPPORTS JAVA 2
WITH DEVELOPERX2 (BETA)
NetBeans DeveloperX2 2.1, now available under the Early Access
Program,
runs on and is written in Java 2 (JDK 1.2). This edition of NetBeans
Developer fully supports Swing for Java 2. Download a copy now, and
look for the final release of this version later in February.
NETBEANS DEVELOPER 2.1 BUILDS
ON 2.0.1 WITH SWING 1.1 (BETA)
Available now as a Beta version on the EAP pages of the NetBeans
site, NetBeans Developer 2.1 offers the same functionality as Developer 2.0.1, but
will feature Swing 1.1. This edition runs on JDK 1.1, and will ship later this month.
This release, version 2.0.1, is available for download from
the NetBeans web site, and includes a number of bug fixes to version 2.0 (a list
of specific changes is included with the IDE). Version 2.0.1 runs on JDK 1.1.x.
If you intend to use NetBeans for commercial development or in a commercial setting,
please purchase a commercial license(s). As
always, NetBeans is free for non-commercial and educational use.
In Quarter 2, NetBeans will beta-release the next generation
of the NetBeans IDE: a core IDE built with Java 2 (codenamed Gandalf), and an expanded
edition, Enterprise, featuring Gandalf's functionality extended with a number of
add-on modules.
Perhaps the most significant change from NetBeans Developer will be the introduction
of a set of Open APIs that will provide complete access to Developer's internal
architecture. This will allow partners and third parties to customize NetBeans and
create tightly integrated add-ons. Gandalf will also feature JDBC support, Swing
1.1, and a new editor. It will also take full advantage of the capabilities of the
Java 2 platform, including more advanced debugging, drag 'n drop, Beans enhancements,
collections, image processing, printing, and more. The Enterprise edition modules
will include Version Control (integration with multiple vendors), Enterprise Java
Beans - EJB, Distributed Computing - RMI, and Directory Services - JNDI.
NetBeans is currently documenting a complete set of Open
APIs that will provide access to the guts of the NetBeans IDE: virtual file systems,
Explorer and desktop integration, Java source parsing & editing, compilation/execution/debugging,
and more. Now available under the NetBeans Early Access Program, the Layout Manager
API is our first public API. Please check back in mid-February for an update.
NetBeans appreciates all communication and feedback from

CLOUDSCAPE JAVA SQL DATABASE
AVAILABLE FOR FREE DOWNLOAD
Cloudscape, a NetBeans partner, is the first 100% Pure Java
SQL
database management system. It's designed to be invisibly embedded
within applications as a local data manager. Cloudscape is a
low-overhead, extensible object-relational database that can be
embedded in applications that are deployed over the Internet to the
mobile workforce, customers, and partners. The Cloudscape database
will be embedded into the NetBeans IDE later this year.
