Popularity of home PC increases need to protect computer from unauthorized access and manipulation Bellevue, Washington, June 1, 1999 – In response to consumer demand for easy-to-use security tools for the home PC, Net Nanny Software International Inc. (NNS.V, NNSWF-OTCBB, NNY–BERLIN), the trusted leader in Internet and PC filtering software, announced today that it is offering PC Nanny. The product is designed for people, who are looking for ways to protect personal, and in some cases, work-related, computer files and functionality on their home computers. PC Nanny is now available via download from Beyond.com , at a special introductory price of US$19.95.

Besides Cyber Snoop, Net Nanny 3.1 is the only program that lets you view its restricted-site lists. Although the program provides extensive customization options, you have to make a significant effort to create a comprehensive list of restricted sites. Even though Net Nanny has a
simple interface and a helpful user manual, some parents may find the customization process too daunting and time-consuming and opt for a product such as Cyber-Patrol, Cybersitter, or X-Stop, which makes the choices for you.

Net Nanny includes easily edited starter lists of words, phrases, and sites. Other programs, such as X-Stop, let you edit their lists, but only if you accidentally find a site that they block. You can fortify Net Nanny's limited lists by downloading free lists from the Net Nanny Web site (updated every two weeks). At press time, the lists totaled more than 10,000 sites and words--which doesn't approach the levels claimed by such products as Cyber Patrol and X-Stop.

Attention: Internet Explorer 4.0 or later and Windows 98 Users!!!  For Net Nanny to work properly, please follow these instructions:

If you are using the Internet Explorer 4.0 with Active Desktop or Internet Explorer 4.0 with Windows 98, the Program name for Internet Explorer is no longer IEXPLORE.EXE it is now EXPLORER.EXE. If you are using Internet Explorer 5.0 wth Active Desktop or Internet Explorer 5.0 with Windows 98, the Program name for Internet Explorer is no longer EXPLORER.EXE It is now IEXPLORE.EXE. Depending on which version of Internet Explorer you are running, please add the appropriate program name to both your "Web Browsers to Monitor" and "Other Programs to Monitor" lists.  The lists can be found under the Options menu of Net Nanny. These program files must be added in capital letters, and then you must restart the computer once you have saved the changes.

Note: This version of Internet Explorer is integrated with Windows Explorer (EXPLORER.EXE) and when a violation occurs the Operating System will be shut down and the computer will need to be rebooted to continue.
