Embedded NT Moves Into Beta |
From The Executive Software Team
![]()
Microsoft has moved the embedded version of Windows NT 4.0 into beta testing.
![]()
Unlike the standard version of NT 4.0, Windows NT Embedded 4.0 is completely stored on CD-ROM on non-PC devices that are targeted for customers in telecommunications, retail point of sales (POS), manufacturing, and Internet devices such as routers. Historically, embedded systems have been used for closed, vertical
solutions, but NT Embedded 4.0 provides a more generic, horizontal system that can be used to build solutions. The embedded system can monitor and maintain devices remotely, with no input or display devices needed. NT Embedded 4.0 includes the core technology of the Win32 API and is compatible with BackOffice servers. Anyone interested in participating in the beta test can request information
