A new version of JPD (java-Pilot-Desktop) has been released.
JPD is the solution for 3coms Palm Pilot (and compatible)
and now also for the Nokia 9000 under OS/2 and other OSs. It
is written in Java, so it runs under every OS.
New Features in Version 0.80:

PMPlanner/2
by Total Results
Total Results is planning to develop native Palm Pilot linking
software for OS/2. Other projects they have in the works include
a utlity that will link Lotus Organzier to the Palm Pilot, and
planning software that will link to both the Palm Pilot and the
Psion.

Introduction
PMPlanner is a project developing object oriented applications
using
SOM and DSOM.
Before a technical description of the planner will be given, we will
describe the functional design of the planner. The design of the planner is
very important to us and must be dynamically and generic.
The describtion of the planner will be a representation of the real world,
which easily can be translated to a class/object model. Classes can be
reused in other projects, so we never have to re invention the wheel
again.....
Due to this project we want to build more applications after this project is
finished. Our goal is to build a Rapid Application Design and to use it for
all our projects.
Functional description
PMPilot/2 will be a native OS/2 application to use the PDB (Pilot
DataBase) files.
Wouldn't it be nice to use the todolist, addressbook, dateplanning,
memopad and expences within OS/2? Some WPS classes that can be
used and/or a PM application? Use it the way you like?
Considering all the applications for OS/2 which do have a todolist etc. it
isn't a coal to write the xx application with the same functionalities like all
the other applications. We need connectivity with our Palm Pilot!
Lotus Organizer is a nice application with all the needs we want (except
the Palm Pilot features)
So what do we realy need?
Using of the PDB files
Using a kind of organiser to use the PDB file format
Synchronisation with the Palm Pilot
Backup, synchronising PDB files on OS/2 system and the Palm Pilot
Import/Export utilities
Once using your own application you want to have an integration with the
Palm Pilot. So import/export of the PDB files are needed. Using Lotus
Organiser? So it would be nice to use the OR4 files and the PDB files?
We got some requests to do synchronisation of other application with the
Palm Pilot. If you want to use your applications with the Palm Pilot, just
mention them in your mail reply.
We will try to build a interface for it if there are enough requests of
course.
When will there be a PMPilot/2?
We first want to know how many are using a Palm Pilot with
OS/2 and
need your support. Yes, you!! If we get a lot of requests we will continue
with the project and we will try to release the first version this summer.
We need the Pilot software forourselves, but if no one else needs it we
will cancel the project. We just write some utilities for our own.
So please respond if you want the native OS/2 software!
Mail count: 76 replies.
How you can help us?
Please give your reply to us and give your opinion about this project.
Also we need your idea's and favourite application names you like to use
with your Palm Pilot.
One of our requests is the database layout of Lotus Organiser/2. We can't
find anything about the OR4 datafiles.
Once we know this format, we can build the port with your Palm Pilot and
Lotus Organiser.
You know?>>>>>Please let us know!
We got a lot of mail replies right now. So were setting up the project.
Still we saw some in the newsgroups about a Java application. We just
need the integration within OS/2 right now and Java doesn't fit yet. So, no
Java application and PMPilot/2 will be a pure OS/2 one. You know...drag
drop with WPS classes? Just love to use that kind of stuff with OS/2!
