Many online advertisers promote their web sites on pay per click search engines such as Goto.com, FindWhat or Sprinks. A pay per click (PPC) search engine allows businesses to list their sites at the top of the search engine results in exchange for money. Sites are listed by choosing keywords that refer to the product or service offered on site.

For each keyword, businesses determine how much they're willing to spend. The higher the bid, the higher the web site will appear in the search results. Advertisers pay only when a web surfer clicks on the search result on the pay per click search engine.
