Client for OS/2 Warp
is now available!

The VERITAS NetBackup 3.1.1 Client for OS/2 Warp is now available . This is the client component (currently without the GUI) of the VERITAS NetBackup 3.1.1 product, about which you can find details on our external web site:

The "client" component is the part that backs-up and restores a local
machine to a NetBackup "Media Server".

Some of the OS/2 specifics include:

1) Full support for and requires OS/2 Warp Connect 3.0 and later
releases: OS/2 Warp Client 4.0, OS/2 Warp Server 4.0 (all variants)

2) Program is a full OS/2 Service (like the REQUESTER service), and
takes full advantage of the LAN Server subsystem for critical error
logging etc.

3) Full Support for OS/2 Access Control Lists as well as Extended
Attributes on FAT, HPFS and HPFS386.

4) Full Support for REXX scripts that are started at the beginning
and end of NetBackup jobs. This is the "OS/2 flavour" of a core
NetBackup feature.

5) Program is heavily multi-threaded.

6) Many debugging logs: PMPRINTF32 as well as the standard NetBackup
debug log system.

7) Uses the IBM Software Installer to install and patch... currently
there are no patches to NBU, but IBM FixPaks to some subsystems are
required.

8) All code has been written using native APIs from the UPM32,
NETAPI32, PMWIN, DOSCALLS, SO32DLL and TCP32DLL (among others)
subsystems. This is in contrast to the Betas we released earlier
which were ports from the NT client using the PMWINX (aka Open32)
subsystem. However the availability of PMWINX allowed us to asses
market interest in NetBackup under OS/2, and the interest was
sufficient to justify the full project.
