Description

The WarpCalc calculator package contains two scientific calculators, one for the command line (CLI) and one for the OS/2 Presentation Manager (GUI). Both versions share the same core capabilities. In addition to common calculator features they allow the user to define his/her own symbols.

For documentation on the GUI version refer to the extensive online help. Depending on the context, online help can be called up by pressing F1 on the keyboard, selecting the help items on the system menu or simply clicking the help button in the current dialog.

For documentation on the CLI version have a look at 2nd last section of this readme.

System requirements

Both the CLI version and the GUI version are 32-bit OS/2 applications. Calc should run on OS/2 2.x and above. WarpCalc runs on OS/2 3.x (Warp), but Warp 4 or later is
recommended for visual appearance. WarpCalc uses the WarpSans font introduced with Warp 4. For Warp 3 users not having this font it can be installed by replacing the
Warp 3 version of the file dspres.dll with the Warp 4 version downloadable from the WarpCalc home page at BMT Micro.

Installation

Neither the CLI version nor the GUI version requires any special installation. Simply copy the included files to a directory of your choice.

If you are using Warp 4, the WPS will create a program object for WarpCalc when you drag the executable to your desktop. If you want to start WarpCalc from the desktop
popup menu follow these steps:

1. Click mouse button 2 on the desktop.
2. Select "Properties" from the menu.
3. Click on the "Menu" tab.
4. Drag the WarpCalc program object over the
"actions on menu" list box and drop it.

There's been an update to version 1.84:

1. More built-in functions. Precise precision control possible via a function called prec (range 3..16). Another new function, srand, can be used to set the seed for the pseudo random number generator.

2. Visual feed-back added for the inv and hyp push buttons. Also more functions accessible via the inv state (e.g., cbrt and root).

3. Alternative ISO sign for multiplication (this standard option replaces the non-ISO option labeled "English" in earlier versions, if someone misses it please let me know. However, if all you need is to use a point as a decimal separator inside a country normally using a comma I recommend changing the setting for decimal sign in the WPS country object).

4. When using the prefix buttons, a zero is automatically prepended.

5. Improved error state behavior. The online help has been revised and is now always available via the system menu. Trying to bring up the settings menu is met with an error sound.

A serious bug in the CLI version affecting usage in the US and the UK has been fixed in this update to v2.74 (the v2.73 PRO version was not afflicted).

Also new in this release of the CLI version is an environment setting controlling where the result is displayed. The default extreme right position may cause the tennis syndrome on 21" monitors in full-screen mode. "set calc_pos=20" will cause all results to be presented at column 20 (right-justified).
