Hi All.
New WinZip, the 8.0. has arrived. I'm registered user since the first versions from Nico Mak and recommend it enthusiastic! I just tested WinZip 8.0 on my Server Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 6 and it is running just fine here!! WinZip brings the convenience of Windows to the use of Zip files and other archive and compression formats. The optional wizard interface makes unzipping easier than ever. WinZip features built-in support for CAB files and for popular Internet file formats such as TAR, gzip, UUencode, BinHex, and MIME. ARJ, LZH, and ARC files are supported via external programs. WinZip interfaces to most virus scanners.

Version 8.0 comes with the following new features:
1.	Instant email, which compresses one or more files, then attaches the compressed files to a blank message in your email client.
2.	An enhanced WinZip wizard that allows you to create and update ZIP files and extract and install from MIME and similarly encoded files.
3.	An enhanced Classic interface that is more like Windows (an Explorer-style toolbar is available).
4.	WinZip now automatically installs Windows desktop themes and screensavers that it has extracted.

You can choose between Classic or Wizard interfaces. Choose Classic for a traditional Windows pane with a toolbar, menus, and a preview pane that shows the contents of a compressed file. In Wizard mode, the program does all the work for you. When you encounter a ZIP file, just follow the instructions while the wizard walks you through a number of screens. You can zip files, unzip archives, and add new files to existing archives. Plus, you can get to WinZip from the right-click menu in Windows Explorer, which is handy for beginning computer users. WinZip also has the helpful ability to temporarily unzip a document and open its application so that you can make changes. When you're done making changes, WinZip then updates the archive with the revised document; you don't even have to extract the archive. Plus, it creates archives that span multiple floppies (in case you need to zip a huge file), builds self-extracting archives so that recipients without a zipper can decompress the files, and offers optional password-protection for archives.

The WinZip Wizard is not targeted at experienced users, but is ideal for the rapidly growing number of PC users getting started with Zip files. The "Favorite Zip Folders" feature lets you organize Zip files into one convenient list that is sorted by date, making it easier to locate all Zip files, regardless of where they came from or where they are stored. Unlike the standard File->Open Archive dialog box, the Favorite Zip Folders dialog box treats the contents of multiple folders as though they were one folder. A Search facility will find any Zip files lost on your hard disk.
WinZip Self-Extractor Personal Edition, included as part of WinZip, creates files that unzip themselves. Self-extracting files are ideal for sending compressed files to others who may not own or know how to use file compression software.
And much more ... WinZip supports most virus scanners, including McAfee's McAfee Virus Scan 5.01 and Norton Antivirus 2000, so you can easily test your downloads for viruses. Full context sensitive help is available should you need it.
