Ztree Win 1.41 running on @Macarlo's NT 4.0

Ztree Win 1.41 Improves NT 4.0

I'm actually working on the Net with Windows NT & StarOffice 5.0 to test the performance. I have problems with Explorer because it rencases automatically longnames, invalidating all hyperlinks in my HTML IDE. I'm FileJet registered user for all platforms and use it running fine on my NT 4.0. But I decide test Ztree Win not because I'm a Ztree maniac (well, I am!!!) but I need extreme high speed in transfer files. I tested it and registered it quickly! Yeahh, man, this file manager really improves Windows NT! @Macarlo

Ztree Win has been updated to version 1.41 and I, @Macarlo, registered user of 212 OS/2 programs - including ZTree Bold - downlodaded the new version (ztw141(1).exe, 430,2KB), tested it on my Windows NT and immediatly decide register it from BMT Micro, Inc. ZTreeWin 1.41 - Win32 File Manager.is a text-mode file/directory manager for Windows 95/98 and NT. It has been developed as a native Win32 alternative to the DOS product XTreeGold (tm), now that its makers have abandonedfurther development. While I am sure you are well aware of the virtuesof XTreeGold, you know the disadvantages of it being a 16-bit DOSprogram. ZTreeWin was developed to provide overcome these limitationswhilst providing the familiar and powerful functionality.

Installation

Installation of ZTreeWin is very simple. There are no registry settings made, no files copied to your system directory - just a directory with the contents of this archive, and a PATH setting.

Assuming you have unzipped the contents of ZTW141.ZIP to a temporary directory, or have received the program files ready to use ondiskette, run the program INSTALL.EXE and follow the directions.

** Or **

If you prefer to install the program manually, here are the required steps:

- Create a subdirectory on your hard drive called 'ZTREE'.

- Unzip the contents of ZTW141.ZIP to this new directory. To use one of the alternate Help files (ZTW-DEU.HLP, ZTW-PORB.HLP or ZTW-SPA.HLP), copy to ZTW.HLP. Edit file "C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT" and add/edit your PATH statement to include "SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\ZTREE". NOTE: If you chose to install to a directory other than "C:\ZTREE", you should modify the included.BAT files to reflect your selected path.

- If you have an existing registration (ZTW.KEY), ensure this is in the ZTree directory.

- File ARCHIVER.BB2 contains configurations used to drive the archiving support of ZTreewin This file should be reviewed to verify it references archive programs you have available in the PATH. NOTE: In order to use the ARCHIVING features of ZTW, you must have third-party archiving utilities available in your PATH. You should also check that ARCHIVER.BB2 contains correct archiver commands. To view files within an archive, you MUST have an environment variable for TMP defined. eg. SET TMP=C:\TMP in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. Here is the location of several popular archivers:

PKZip: http://www.pkware.com InfoZip:

http://www.cdrom.com/pub/infozip WinZip: http://www.winzip.com/

ARJ: http://www.arjsoftware.com JAR:

- Review the sample *.BAT files included to point them to your available applications and viewers. The .BAT file with the name matching the currently highlighted file will be executed when you 'O'pen the file. See FAQ.TXT for instructions on using various file viewers from XTreeGold(tm).

- To migrate your existing XTreeGold installation, you may copy over the following files (and rename) to use with ZTreeWin:

XTGOLD.CFG -> ZTW.INI XTGOLD.HST -> ZTW.HST XTG_MENU.DAT ->

ZTW_MENU.DAT

- The first time you run ZTW, select Alt-F10 (Configure) to set user preferences including program colors and default editor & viewer.

Press [Enter] to leave the configuration screen, or your changes will be lost.

- To run ZTreeWin from the Windows 95 or NT desktop, create a shortcut to ZTWIN.BAT (see the next step to create ZTWIN.BAT).

Then, edit the properties of this shortcut to specify fonts etc. You may also choose to use one of the included .ICOs to help identify the new shortcut.

- If you want to use the Alt-Q command to exit to the current directory, you *must* run a command file named ZTWIN.BAT to invoke ZTW.EXE. This file will be created in the same path as ZTW.EXE, when you issue the Alt-Q command.

- Also refer to ZTREE.INF for a method to add ZTreeWin to the action menu of your drives for easy access.

- Basic ZTreeWin operational help can be accessed within the program with the F1 key.

Here are the command line options: (which override ZTW.INI)
